Lies…..Betrayal…Blank stares…empty eyes
Dirty hair….rotting teeth…skin and bones Psychosis…sickness ..zombie walks
Garbage bags….Backpacks
Cigarettes…. Narcan ..Track marks ..infection
Heroin.. Meth..Sickness…..disease
Hospitals..homelessness
Months become years
One day at a time..
Nearly a decade…
Watching you die…
A slow and painful death
Broken dreams
Broken promises
Broken hearts
Yet I know that change is possible..
That butterflies emerge after great struggle..
That you are one of my greatest teachers ..
And meant to be part of our lives.
Unconditional love…
Hard boundaries and self care …
Faith that there is far more to this journey
than we can see with human eyes.
